Our Journey | Lost in a 4x4 Overland Journey - Lost In A 4x4

OUR JOURNEY

We’re slowly tracing a long-term overland route across continents, following roads that lead through deserts, mountain ranges, borders, and some of the wildest places we’ve ever seen. Along the way, we document the details that matter—routes, logistics, border crossings, and the everyday realities of life on the road. Our goal is simple: to share practical, honest overland travel information to help you plan your own adventures, whether that’s a short weekend escape or a year of full-time overlanding.

We officially left on May 31st, 2025, finally putting into motion a dream we had been building for years: to overland the world. We travel in our 2021 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon, built with a minimalist overland setup designed for long-distance travel, reliability, and simplicity.

Our first major leg took us coast to coast across the United States, a journey that surprised us in all the best ways. Exploring our own backyard turned out to be just as powerful as any faraway destination. We visited Glacier National Park, Yellowstone, countless state parks, national monuments, and museums—including several Smithsonian museums—and spent many nights wild camping in remote and beautiful places. We reached the Atlantic in Baltimore, Maryland, marking the end of our first overland crossing.

From there, we shipped our Jeep—“Bassy”—from Baltimore to Hamburg using RoRo (Roll-On/Roll-Off) shipping. While Bassy crossed the Atlantic, we flew to Moldova and traveled north through Europe using trains and buses, passing through a mix of modern cities and quiet Soviet-era towns before reuniting with our vehicle.

The day we picked up Bassy in Germany felt like the journey began again. From there, we embarked on a long European overland loop, driving through Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, the Czech Republic, Germany, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Belgium, France, Spain, and finally Gibraltar.

Europe gave us far more than we expected—abandoned Soviet missile sites, WWII bunkers, concentration camps, castles, churches, historic cities, and quiet villages. We wild camped for nearly the entire European journey, with the exception of France and Spain, and every mile added perspective, momentum, and a deeper appreciation for life on the road.

Then came the moment we had been dreaming about.

We crossed the Strait of Gibraltar by ferry into Morocco, marking the beginning of our Africa overlanding journey. Since November 2025, we’ve been slowly working our way south through the continent, overlanding across Morocco, Mauritania, Senegal, The Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, and now Côte d’Ivoire.

This journey continues as we aim to overland the entire African continent by 4x4, from West to Central, Southern, and East Africa. What comes after Africa is still unwritten—and we’ll see where the road takes us next.

Below, you’ll find our live travel map, used primarily to show our current location as we move along our route. It is not regularly updated with trip entries, but simply helps track where we are on our overland journey in real time.
